In the heart of Limburg in gorgeous Heusden-Zolder stands the Velodroom, a world-class sports complex designed to meet all UCI standards, earning its place as an ideal venue for European and World Championship cycling events. But the Velodroom is more than just a cycling hub. This 15,000m² multifunctional space features four versatile sports courts, a gymnasium, a medical center, meeting rooms, a fitness center, a performance lab, and the lively Mooze Bar. Its flexible design allows the venue to transform into a mega-event location, catering to a wide range of sports and large-scale events. To support this versatility, AUDAC was chosen as the trusted partner to design and implement a comprehensive audio solution tailored to the needs of the facility.
At the core of the audio setup is the 2 x LUNA-F audio matrix processor, orchestrating seamless communication across the entire venue. Control is intuitive and accessible via 4 NCP105 wall-mounted control panels and the online control platform AUDAC Touch™, enabling effortless audio management. To accommodate output channels, 4 NWP320 wall input panels are installed in key locations such as the cycling track, gym, workplace, cycle parking, entrance, and six in the meeting room.
The heart-pounding energy of the Velodroom is amplified by 36 VEXO115/B high-performance loudspeakers, designed for powerful, detailed sound in large-scale environments. Their selection was the result of an extensive acoustic study using EASE 4.4 simulation software, which analyzed sound coverage, clarity, and pressure levels throughout the venue. The study confirmed the VEXO115/B as the optimal choice, offering consistent sound distribution, minimal deviation, and excellent speech intelligibility, even in high-noise conditions. Operating in a low-impedance setup, these speakers maximize sound fidelity and efficiency. To further optimize performance and reduce signal loss, decentralized 19” racks were strategically placed along the overhead walkways, minimizing cable runs and ensuring stable power delivery.
The amplification backbone consists of 9 SMQ1250 quad-channel amplifiers, each capable of delivering 4 x 1250 watts, connected to an ANI44XT Dante interface, which converts the analog amplifiers for seamless integration into the venue’s digital Dante™ network. This ensures smooth audio distribution while maintaining the high-performance quality of the SMQ series, all controlled from a centralized hub.
The XMP44 modular audio system, equipped with four IMP40 internet radio modules, delivers diverse audio content throughout the complex. The NPM200 manages live announcements. For venue-wide broadcasts, the NPM200 dynamic paging microphone makes sure every message reaches its audience.
By combining powerful hardware and user-friendly control, this comprehensive AUDAC audio setup provides the flexibility and reliability needed for a multifunctional venue of this scale. From international cycling events to business meetings and large-scale gatherings, the Velodroom is equipped with a future-proof audio system designed to perform at the highest level.
