At Silverstone Circuit, performance is measured in milliseconds. But beyond the roar of engines and the intensity of race day, there is another critical layer that defines the visitor experience: sound.
Delivering clear, powerful and intelligible audio across a venue of this scale is no small task. With vast outdoor spaces, constantly shifting noise levels and tens of thousands of spectators, Silverstone required a solution that could match the speed, scale and precision of the racing itself.
Silverstone’s legacy audio system was no longer fit for purpose. Based on a traditional 100V architecture, it was limited to low level speech and lacked the power, clarity and flexibility required for modern race events. In an environment dominated by engine noise and crowd energy, audio needs to cut through without distortion. Announcements must be instantly understood. Safety messages must be unmistakable. And increasingly, entertainment audio must match the premium expectations of a global audience.
At the heart of the upgrade is a powerful deployment of AUDAC HS208T horn loudspeakers. A total of 69 units were installed across key grandstand areas including Club Corner, Hamilton Straight, Abbey Corner and the pit lane zones. Mounted strategically on the front canopy of each grandstand, the speakers are positioned to project directly into the audience areas with maximum efficiency. The choice for the HS208T was driven by its unique balance between size and performance.
In addition to the loudspeaker infrastructure, AUDAC also contributed a dedicated source solution for automated and scheduled messaging. The system includes an AUDAC XMP44 equipped with an AUDAC FMP40 module.
The installation represents the first phase of a wider rollout across the circuit’s 30 zones. By establishing a strong and consistent loudspeaker foundation, Silverstone now benefits from a system that can be expanded efficiently in future stages. The project was delivered through close collaboration between NoiseBoys Technologies as system integrator and CUK Group as distribution and design support partner.
